Spear-fishing – Techniques

We will try try to demonstrate or shortly remind you to some of the techniques of spear-fishing:

Spear-fishing – shooting stead

Shooting stead can be defined as a technique in which fisherman, after diving in, comes to the bottom, calms down behind some shelter and waits for fish to come in a range of underwater gun instead of approaching the fish himself. In reality, shooting stead is much more complex to perform, but the basic principle functions, no matter how this might seem impossible to the beginners or people that don't know much about spear-fishing.

Sinking spear-fishing

Technique of sinking spear-fishing has several phases: swimming, spotting the prey, diving in, sinking and shooting as a final part of the action. All these phases must be performed perfectly in order to approach the fish. As in other techniques of spear-fishing (espacially in 'sneaking on the surface' technique), swimming must be light, without noise,  plashing or snatching that could send warning signals to the fish. Gentle swimming makes it possible for you to concetrate on a situation bellow sea surface. Spotting fish on time is next important thing. It is clear that the precondition for this is good visibility or transparence of the sea; and there is certainly no shortage of this in the Adriatic. Sinking fishing is almost always done in deep water, but shallow waters are not excluded as well.

Spear-fishing while sneaking on the surface

Sneaking on the surface is ideal for fishermen who due to inability to train regulary or for some other reasons have apnea or just can't dive deep. This technique has surprising results or prey, and at the same time you don't even have to dive in (or you dive sallow and for a short period of time) and almost without apne. Although, to be sucessfull in this technique, you must be perfect in it and this reperesents a real challange to the guest that already has some experience in this way of fishing. It is also necessary to know the area and habits of the fishes connected to to the sea states, part of the day, weather conditions, moon changes, seasons etc. If you wish to fish in this technique in the middle of the summer, next to some crowded beach after you have slept, had breakfast and even had a small rest – forget it! You will do a bad favour to yourself and young fish that will probably be your only prey.
