'Our folk songs, wheel dances, folk dances and balls last in the spirit and movement of people mostly as a need, understanding of what has passed, clarification of identity. Therefore, these people, even in unfortunate decades of unfavourable history, embraced songs, balls, folk dances and wheel dances, fiddle and lyre, tamburitza and mandolin, shepherd's flute and twin flute, long flute and fife... not to remove the pain, but to sing it, to prolong hundred years old scripts of suffering so that clear sources of pain, courses of this pain and the medicine for it could be retold to the conscience of the people.
People of that period, almost illiterate, read Nature in its original, directly, without middleman, and because of that it gained a personal copy of fullness without suffered percentage to the middleman.
(...) people doesn't even count on the fact that they are being listened to. We stand in front of the fact in which poet is a singer-creator, preformer and listener. In wheel dance we also meet three elements: poetry, singing and mime, all in the same person.
Folk melodies, creation of anonimous folk poets and inventors, dancers and intiutive movement inventors – comes directly from the life of the people, from a living practice, from everyday living so to become a property of number of generations, their historical and folclore period. That is where a Creature of singing transfered by vocals and steps of one generation to other of these poetical spiritual facts rose. Who hasn't really looked at the graves of his ancestors, hasn't really looked at the cradles of the next generation.
People's creations of any nation, as of Croatian, are a measure of their identity, coordinance to themselves. Nations are freed by rebellions, revolutions, they defend their integrety through border watch-towers, but what they have freed and defended they keep only in folclore creations of number of generations in written and oral creations of the people, individuals and groups. You can rule the country, but creations of the people can only be served in order to be rewarded by them. What is truly beautiful are always patient creations of number of generations, undescribable inovations of number of generations, spiritual hunger even more than for weat, more than greed for gold so that couldn't be decant nither in waet nor gold- but that stays untouched value in true spiritual box of this nation.
Poems sing of fairness and love, love for juctice and fairness in any kind of love, even when grim pogroms went around roofs and cradles of this nation, the erge for revenge hasn't grown, but the wish for juctice.
However, they strongly act upon the spirit of the listener who learns them by heart little by little; I have seen some crying and sighing over some poems. And people sing, especially in night, about deeds of great man and kings or about some tragic event. If it happens that another traveller comes from the other hill, he repeats the verse that the first has been singing and thet singing continues untill two voices are separated (A.Fortis).
Little nations are often little fishes in the bowls of bigger ones – but those little fishes naturally abound in thorns, so there can't be bigger bites without some bone of little fishes staying in the troat of bigger ones and making their voice deeper even when they don't sing.
Inteligence writes for inteligence, and people think for people and for inteligence as well, even for those who will again write for people. People write about what hasn't been said, nor sang, nor danced; people don't copy from smart books. When people create there is only one reason: life and living of that people, historical course that spins the mill's wheel in that moment because of the reflection of heritage faith of that sacred flour. Therefore, home of the poem and movement is in the heart of the people, and what has been created, both by people and art, are spread roads of that country and through those roads people walk, people's differences are crossroads of those roads, and people's moral are the signs on the roads. This is how habits become traditions, traditions become cultures and culture becomes spirituality.'
Ljubo Stipišić Delmata wrote tese big words about Croatia. He was a famous artist who in his works showed as a true lover of this small country of big beauties.
